With easy walking distance from Minami-Kusatsu station we find Gokurakuyu Minami-Kusatsu. Part of the Gokurakuyu chain, and in that regard hardly unique. It’s a supersentō, which means it’s quite sizeable. Besides bathing facilities there is also a diner, several massage services and a barber present.
Both the dressingroom and the bathing area are well maintained. The dressing area contains ample lockers to cope even during peak hours. The bathing area consists of an indoor and an outdoor part, both with several different baths and facilities. The indoor part contains a hot bath, a cold bath, and electric bath, several different jet baths and a herb bath with a revolving menu. In the indoor area we also find a dry amphi-theatre style dry sauna. In the outside area we find a rock pool, a massage jet and a steam sauna located in a small cave at the back of the outdoor area. The rest of the outdoor area consists of a rock garden and a tatami mat relaxing area.
The size of this bath makes it possible to easily spend over an hour bath hopping and relaxing, which can be very pleasant after a day of hard work. The sauna is included in the entrance fee, which on weekdays is 550 yen and during weekends it goes up to 600 yen. Extras, such as disposable razors, towels, etc. are available at a fee. For an investment of 100 yen visitors can sign up as members and receive a card that will give them a 50 yen discount on each visit. Simple math tells us that if you plan to visit this bath more than twice it is worth going through the simple registration process.
