For 700 yen you can experience the pleasure of a Japanese bath. If you have never been to a public path and do not speak Japanese it may be a bit daunting. All you need to take is a wash cloth and a towel and of course plan on spending two or more hours.

The bath house is comprised of three floors. When you walk in the entrance take your shoes off before stepping up on the wood floor. Put your shoes in one of the lockers, insert 100 yen, and lock (you get it back when you unlock the locker). Take the locker key to the counter and hand the attendant 600 yen. Hopefully he will show you how to use the vending machine to purchase your ticket, which he will then take the ticket and your locker key and give you a key with a wrist band. Take this key upstairs to the Male (blue) or Female (red) locker room and undress. Put your clothes, towel and personal items in the locker, but take the wash cloth. After locking the door, put the key around your wrist.

You are now ready to enter the bath. Walk in and proceed all the way to the other side, where you will find a stool, pail and soap. Sit down and give yourself a good scrup and then rinse off. Once your clean go and try the various tubs. Be sure and save going to the third floor to last as the garden atmosphere is very relaxing. Don’t rush, the experience is meant to be savored. When in doubt just watch what the locals do and don’t expect anyone to be able to speak English.

After, if your hungry, try the food downstair, they even have beer. All you need to do if figure out which vending slot to put your money in to get what you want. We found the counter people very helpful.

This is definitely a discovery event and in the evening it is an opportunity to see whole familes interact.
